I think they would be good for centuries if not millinia. Scientists found some 15,000 year old lupine seeds that were frozen into the arctic permafrost during the last iceage. They were all viable and grew healthy, vigorous plants.

The Bible has 2 dietary phases, 1. not under the curse and on good terms with God and 2. under the curse and on bad terms with God. Most of the Bible deals with conditions under the curse where the diet is cooked food with meat. But before the curse it was 100% fruit eating in the Garden of Eden with the Tree of Life with 12 different fruits. And then at the very end of the Bible the curse is li

Really cool Coco. I love small ecosystems in a jar. I have about 15 different ones in jars 1 quarts to 5 gallons. They're just water and mud I've scooped up from ponds and streams. Very interesting, all different, with various algaes and small animals evovling from year to year. In one a dragonfly emerged from the mud after a few years. If you try it, put in bright indirect light as they'll

When I took animal nutrition at Humboldt State University it was emphasized how critically important the balance of the internal microflora was in digestion for the grazing animal. These beneficial bacteria and a few other organisms help not only in the breakdown of the food but can create needed nutrients like amino acids. When they are not in the right balance the vegetarian animal can starve,

While concern for the bees is laudable it is but a very tiny part of the problem. One's giant animal annihilating footprint on the Earth is the major concern. Your house - every plant and animal that had lived there is dead and gone, and they don't even have the potential for repopulating the area. Worse than hunters, the animals they kill can repopulate the intact habitat. The same goe

The wooly animals shed their heavy winter coats come spring. If one has friendly realations with those animals, sheep, goats, alpacas, musk oxen, etc. they wouldn't mind at all if one took what they were shedding anyway. How about a farm that is powered with horse, ox, or water buffalo? All the food produced by that farm is very much due to the hard work of these draft animals. Would all th

The real substance should not be whether it is an animal product or not but whether the animal involved is treated fairly and if it is a good food or not. The bees are treated fairly. And honey is an excellent food for the vegan. Symbiotic relationships are where both organisms benefit from the an interchange between them. Like the beneficial micro organisms in the digestive tract. They

The bees gather nectar from flowers and process it to create honey. Honey is the concentrated nectar from the fowers of plants, totally vegan. By the logic of the vegan pontificators that have declared honey an animal product because it was handled by an animal, all foods handled by an animal would have to be concidered an animal product. By this logic it would mean that all food raised by a

We live in Deep Time, measured in millions or billions of years. To keep the Earth in top shape for the next 5 billion years we can not afford to throw anything away. Absolutely everything must be recycled, especially crap, dog, cat, human, all of it. Crap contains phosphorous, a very scarce resource, that life can not do without. To cavalierly discard it is hugely wasteful, which will greatly

Hmm. If one harvested it in the middle of the night, when the slugs have crawled out for a night of foraging, you would probably be alright. Wheatgrass is poisonous to slugs so they have to go elsewhere to eat.

As with anything from the garden you must clean it very carefully to eliminate any slugs, even tiny ones, to avoid getting rat lungworm (Australia, Hawaii, + ??) which can be lethal. I've raised it in the garden with good success but slugs just love to crawl in there to hide for the day (they won't eat any though).

I would say that 6000 years of murderous intolerance on the part of first the Jews before Christ and then the Christians might explain many bad feelings. Murderous genocide was God's chosen (the Jews) method of dealing with heathens. The Old Testament is a bloody murderous atrocity. Read Numbers 31 for starters. Numbers 31:35 - 47 is about the sacrifice of 64 virgin girls, meaning they killed

Fungi are more closely related to animals than plants: QuoteAnimals and Fungi: Evolutionary Tie? By NATALIE ANGIER Published: April 16, 1993 They may seem awfully vegetative in their habits, and the university researchers who study them may often be counted as members of the botany department, but fungi are turning out to be far more closely related to animals than to plants, scientists s

"Cobalt is important in the plant world. Bacteria on root nodules of legumes (beans, alfalfa, clover) require cobalt (and other trace elements) to synthesize B12 and fix nitrogen from air." I bet if we get B12 figured out, it may be the solution to protein deficiency in the fruitarian diet too (no longer a need to eat nuts or seeds or alot of greens). Bacteria in the gut will also fi

Also mentioned by several authors is that b12 producing bacteria and the resulting vitamin are found on the unwashed skin of fruits and vegetables. As you wash them you lose vitamin b12. Here's an idea for rejuvilac: Take unwashed grapes, perhaps Pinot noir, Cabernet sauvignon, or Merlot, and mash them. Let ferment for a day or two. Press out the juice for a drink rich in a friend

All of the vegetarian animals acquire all the B12 they need without the need to buy any pills. If we need pills on a permanent basis, something is seriously wrong with our dietary theory.
