I thought I'd share my experience. My hair started thinning and breaking off (and I already had thin hair, so not good) and turns out it was because I was eating lots of hi protein soy bars. My chiropractor said my hair was being affected because my thyroid was being damaged by all that soy. So I quit the bars and my hair and thyroid recovered. During that time my hairdresser refused to giv

I eat fruit - but it's mostly the fruits that we think of as veggies - tomatoes, cucumbers, avocados, etc. I feel better eating those fruits, greens, and some nut butter. In fact, I am participating in a 21 day challenge where I decided to drop the 2 - 3 bananas I was eating per day, nuts at work, and raw bars and incorporate more veggies juices and green smoothies. The things I am dropping w

Have you seen Angela Stoke's website ? She lost a lot of weight on raw foods. If you read her extended story at you will see that she did it somewhat gradually and it still worked. Just try to eliminate the two worst foods - refined starches and sugars - and replace them with something better. Like sprouted bread with almond butter - for now. Then eat a lot of raw fruit & veggies too. Go

Someone mentioned the notmilk guy from notmilk.com. I think he provides some great information. But he is very pro-soy and then I was shocked when I saw him at a talk because he was very obese. I wonder if the soy is messing with his thyroid... Dr. Mercola is very anti-soy. My son has tested allergic to soy twice (the only food that showed up consistently, even though he wasn't eating much of

I gave up all my tea and threw a bunch in the trash when I read an article saying that they found out that one company had been speeding up the drying of the tea leaves by driving over them with their diesel trucks and the tea leaves were very high in lead as a result. I think this was in Mercola's newsletter, but it may have been a different one - I can't remember. Karen DeVeaux

Tonya Zavasta and Matt Monarch both believe that switching to a raw food diet will cause gas. They have different theories as to why. I think digestive enzymes can help. Karen DeVeaux

You could substitute sprouted bread - like Manna bread or Ezekial 4:9 bread for that late night snack for now. That would be a healthier snack and some raw foodists eat sprouted grains. I know Tonya Zavasta, a raw foodist for 10 years, says she ate sprouted grains for the first 2 years but now doesn't eat them. So they are a great transition food for some. Karen DeVeaux

I have Type 1 Diabetes and eat 2 to 3 bananas most days. They require 2 units of insulin each. So, if I take my insulin (which I even have to take with greens) my blood sugar is good after eating them. Everything in moderation and they are better than some alternatives. As Victoria Boutenko said in one of her books (I think it was The Raw Family), if we listened to what not to eat from everyone -

The olives are only raw if they are labelled unpasteurized at the olive bar. I used to eat lots of broccoli, it was my favorite vegetable. Then a chiropractor tested me with kinesiology and said I was hypersensitive to it and it wasn't good for me. So, I haven't eaten it in years. I say don't eat the stuff that tastes awful to you and that you have to disguise with other foods. It may be

Good to hear from you, Camille! Yes, I am still enjoying the Rawsome Diet although I did cheat and drink a little wine over the holidays. We won some private label cranberry wine at a party and I eventually drank it all gone. My husband doesn't drink so it was up to me. :-) I'm glad you are doing well. Karen DeVeaux

Only unpasteurized olives are considered raw. For me, I can only find them online or as part of the olive bar at WF. Karen DeVeaux

Okay, I've got Matt's book with me today - "Raw Success". In regards to his age - "After talking with some of those managing the Norwalk family business, it appears they have evidence that Dr. Walker lived 118 years. Regardless of the age to which he truly lived, I feel that he provides an optimal model for long-term health." In regards to his diet - "Upon rising, D

I admire you for spreading the word, greenie. Yes, Type 2 is so reversible and it's sad that people don't realize that sometimes. There is so much variety in what you can eat with raw foods, that it is hard to pick. I even treated myself to a Rawvolution box this week. It should arrive today. I can't wait to try their raw foods! Karen DeVeaux

When my kids turned to me and asked if Santa was real. I asked them if they really wanted to know and then I told them the truth. I told them the spirit of Christmas was real but there was no actual Santa Claus. They were maybe 6 and 7 years old. They are teenagers now and they tease me about it, but I ask them if I should have lied and they say no. When I found out about Santa, I thought m

You might find this website helpful for figuring out how much sugar is in different foods . The fruits that we normally think of as veggies, like tomatoes and cucumbers, are low on sugar I think. I have Type 1 diabetes and I find I do better with those fruits and apples and bananas. Melons, citrus, and grapes are tough on my blood sugars, but that could be just me and not because of how swe

Congratulations, fmsing40! I love to read encouraging stories about other people with diabetes on raw food. Even though I have Type 1 and you have (and soon to be 'had', hopefully :-) ) Type 2, we can both relate to how much better we feel when our blood sugars are more normal and that what the traditional doctors recommend we eat doesn't work at all. greenie mentioned sunflower pate. I recen

Yes, I read the first book in the series and enjoyed it. There is controversy over whether it is a true story or not. I'm not sure I believe it is true, but it was still fun to read and the planting information made sense. Karen DeVeaux

Some say he lived to 118 (and some group says they have proof of this, that is in Matt's book too - what the group is, not the proof) and then I have seen a picture of his tombstone that is posted online that says he lived to 99. I think we should focus less on the age that he died, and more on the way that he lived. He conquered ill health in his 40s and then experienced vibrant health up unt

You are doing great and remember that high raw is fantastic too! Tonya Zavasta and Angela Stokes both ate high raw for 3 years before transitioning to 100% raw. So, you don't have to do it overnight. The two worst foods are refined sugar and starches, imho. Sprouted grains and raw honey are great replacements for those. Take care! Karen DeVeaux

The anesthesia probably wouldn't kill you but medicine they might try to give you later in the hospital could be a problem. Remember, all medicine has been tested on cooked food eaters. This is from a talk I went to by Tonya Zavasta, a 10 year raw foodist. She said at the beginning of her raw food journey she had to have several hip surgeries due to a birth deformity that she could finally get

I do not believe it is true. In Matt Monarch's latest book "Raw Success" he provides Norman Walker's exact diet. He did include some raw goat cheese in small amounts, I think from goats that they raised. I don't have the book with me right now or I would post his daily menu. If I am able, I will post it later. I'm sure we all start at a different point. But what she said made sense to me because they are always saying the reason that people gain more weight back than they lost after a diet is because they slowed down their metabolism by starving. And also, a lot of weight loss gurus are now saying we need to eat every 3 hours so our metabolism doesn't slow down. Take it for what it's worth, not

Hi, everyone! I hope you all are enjoying raw foods as much as I am! I am still blogging away and recently I went to a talk by Tonya Zavasta and really enjoyed it. She was very entertaining and I learned a lot. I will blog about it in a few days. She calls it the Rawsome Diet - I like that! Her website is at . You know, once you get experience at eating this way there is so much variety tha
